Join us at Northern Stage, Newcastle for a day of discussion, inspiration, networking and innovation.
Cardboard Citizens have been working for nearly 30 years to facilitate and affect change in both individuals and society. We believe that people working in arts and culture can use their work to have a lasting social and political impact.
We will pose the question - how art and creativity can affect social and political change? How can we, as campaigners or artists, work together to challenge perceptions and facilitate real social, systemic and political transformation? The day will bring together like minded practitioners, artists and campaigners to discuss how to work together as an arts for social change network in Newcastle.
This event is part of our Cardboard Camps programme taking place around the country training individuals and organisations in the techniques we use to engage vulnerable people.
The day will include:
‘Moments of Inspiration’ - presentations from:
Cardboard Citizens and how our work has helped to support the Homelessness Reduction Act
Curious Monkey Theatre and their project to inspire a conversation about young people with care experience
Open Clasp Theatre’s work telling stories of women who have experienced coercive control and how their work helped the police’s understanding of this issue
Lawnmowers Theatre work with people with learning disabilities
Sean Burn – an artist with lived experience of homelessness
- World café sessions discussing important social issues affecting the Newcastle community
- A Legislative Theatre session – learning how to use legislative theatre to change policy. This is a type of theatre that presents an issue to an audience and then asks them to suggest changes. An invited team of experts assemble into realistic policies which they are then able to take action on using their relevant expertise and influence
- Networking opportunities – both through a facilitated networking session and throughout the day
