Every week we hear stories of how participants have turned their lives around thanks to the help of our support staff:
Craig* was living in Look Ahead Victoria hostel and very frustrated as felt ‘stuck’ there, and in life generally. Thanks to letter of support from Cardboard Citizens has successfully ‘moved on’ into private rented accomodation in Victoria. He has also just completed a 2 day self-confidence course at CityLit and is applying to do a Care work qualification.
Jamie* had alcohol issues and was street homeless. Cardboard Citizens helped him get onto a detox programme, into a supported flat and onto a council housing list. He is now setting up social enterprise with for artists form disadvantaged backgrounds, meeting with established conceptual artists at Greenwich Uni for discussion of ideas behind work and future collaborations.
Suzanna* had mental Health issues, low confidence and no qualifications. She took part in the Thames Festival with Cardboard Citizens and achieved a PEARL qualification. Through this and a trip to Cirque du Solei she became inspired to become a clown - she is now enrolled on a top clowning course at London Bubble.
Mark* has been ‘dry’ for two weeks after a very heavy period of drinking. Cardboard Citizens have persevered in connecting him with London Street Rescue services and other local services, and this has led to him being referred to detox.
*Names have been changed.
