Following its five star Edinburgh Fringe Festival run and hugely successful 2016/17 tour, Cardboard Citizens reprised its acclaimed hit Cathy for a strictly limited run at the Soho Theatre, Albany Theatre and performances across the UK from March-May 2018.
Settled …. Until suddenly you’re not…
Candid, poignant and intimate, award-winning playwright Ali Taylor's critically acclaimed play is a powerful and timely reflection on the social and personal impact of spiralling housing costs, gentrification and the challenges of the forced relocation. Cathy tells the story of one woman’s fight for her home, her life and her rights.
Exploring resonances in today’s society with the story told in the ground-breaking Ken Loach film, Cathy Come Home, 50 years ago, Cathy is directed by Cardboard Citizens' Artistic Director Adrian Jackson.
Audiences in London will have the chance to see the show at Soho Theatre as a stand-alone piece. All other performances at other venues will include an interactive style debate in classic Forum Theatre style.
Forum Theatre is a style of theatre that empowers the audience to change the outcome and have their say on one of society’s most topical subjects today meaning every performance will be a completely unique experience. Audience will be encouraged to suggest different actions and outcomes for the narrative, helping to actively engage with the issues that the plays presents and change the course of the character’s lives. And don't worry! Audiences members can be as involved as they decide, whether choosing to get up on stage and act themselves or just sit back and watch as the story is rewritten in front of their eyes.
This revival of Cathy features its original acclaimed cast: Alex Jones, Amy Loughton, Cathy Owen and Hayley Wareham.
Cathy is made possible with the support of Arts Council England, Prudential PLC, Moondance Foundation, Shanly Foundation, St Petroc's Society, Royal Victoria Hall Foundation, Hyde Park Place Estate Charity and the Unity Theatre Trust. Special thanks to the family of Dorothy Miles for supporting the accessible performances of Cathy.
