The rehearsal room at Cardboard Citizens HQ was transformed into a tropical paradise this week as the Act Now team presented their end of term Open Mic night. A group of 15 young members came together for a summer party presenting songs, poems, monologues and spoken word pieces. The group have been working together since May and the open mic saw them come together to celebrate their creativity, friendship and community.
Effie Makepeace, our Programme Delivery Manager said ‘The whole night was organised by our ACT NOWers from start to finish – the food was amazing, the performances were incredible – there was singing, poetry, rap, dance routines, monologues...they did a fantastic job.’
Dominique, who took the lead in organising the event, said ‘I really enjoyed the summer workshops as it allows and gives me the opportunity to organise a show – my favourite moment was ensuring everything was in order and set.’ The Open Mic was Dominique’s Leadership Project for her Silver Arts Award. The Arts Award scheme is an accredited qualification to inspire young people in arts and leadership talents.
Act Now is our programme with young people aged 16 – 25 who are not in education, employment or training (NEET) or have experience of homelessness.
