If you love cycling, are looking for a fun 2017 challenge and want to help Cardboard Citizens' work, we have excellent news! We have a number of individual places for this year’s hugely popular Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100.
This year's Prudential Ride 100 takes place on the 30 July 2017 and offers a perfect, traffic-free ride for a range of cycling abilities on an incredible route through London and Surrey. As well as the personal challenge of completing the route, by signing up to fundraise for Cardboard Citz, participants’ involvement will also benefit the homeless and vulnerable people that we work with.
Feeling tempted? We asked one of our 2016 riders, Cardboard Citz's very own Facilities Manager Stuart Grey, to write a few words about his experience to spur you on:
“It’s not often I am awake before the sun has risen and usually it would be because I had not yet gone to bed but, at 5am on the morning of 31 July I was awake, I was excited, I was drinking coffee and eating tomatoes and mushrooms on wholemeal toast. I had convinced myself that partaking in an event such as the Prudential Ride 100 was beyond my means. The day before I had been to register at the ExCel Centre and felt mildly petrified by the amount of Lycra and cycling paraphernalia on display, but buoyed by the atmosphere and sense of anticipation.
"I will never forget my first Ride 100. It was exhilarating, challenging and aesthetically stunning. There is a comradery amongst the cyclists, and I shared a few laughs with strangers. The members of the public who line the streets giving out sweets was heart-warming. As I entered the final leg, into the mall, the density of the cyclists had become sparse and I could take a moment to myself and reflect on the achievement but only for a moment because I had already set myself the target to improve on my time the following year.
"Bring on Ride London 2017.”
